On this page you will find the specifications for North’s standard Class racing sails for the J/109. Because of the unique racer/cruiser qualities of the J/109, each individual owner will use their boat in a different way. Some owners will only race their J/109, while others will mix weeknight racing with weekend cruising. Still others have bought the J/109 simply to have a high performance cruising boat. To attempt to define one inventory for the boat would simply be a disservice to all of the owners. J/109 CLASS HEADSAIL
© North SailsAP-3 105% Class Headsail $4,391
3DL 680 Aramid/Carbon 14700 DPII = 14.17
J = 4.05
This sail is optimized for 0-15 knots TWS. It has plenty of power in light air and the shape can be easily adjusted by changing the halyard and backstay tension as the wind increases. This year we are adding a tighter Aramid scrim to strengthen the leech. For 2009, we increased the leech length and increased the foot round to get the sail closer to the deck.
FEATURES:
» 4 Vertical RBS Epoxy Battens
» High Modulus Leech Line
» Foot line
» Trim Stripes
» Telltale Window
» Sausage Bag
Other Available Options:
» UV Leech & Foot Cover
» UV Luff Sleeve

J/109 HEAVY HEADSAIL
© North SailsHA-2 105% Heavy Headsail $4,5773DL 680 Aramid/Carbon 16800 DPI
This sail is flatter in shape than the AP jib, but not as flat or smaller like a blade jib. So the boat will stay on its feet in heavier breeze and accelerate instead of heeling and sliding sideways. We kept the sail full size so that the sail will still have some power in windy, but lumpy conditions. This year we are offering lightweight Taffeta on one side as an extra option for durability.
I = 14.17
J = 4.05
FEATURES:
» 4 Vertical RBS Epoxy Battens
» High Modulus Leech Line
» Foot line
» Trim Stripes
» Telltale Window
» Sausage Bag
Other Available Options:
» UV Leech & Foot Cover

J/109 CLASS ASYMMETRICS
New for 2011! 1.5A Class Spinnaker 108m2 - Asymmetric $4,659
SPL = 5.72
ISP = 14.84
Sailing the J/109 in 8-10 TWS can be tough downwind. It’s not really windy enough to sail the really deep angles the boat likes and if it’s lumpy, it gets harder. This sail was developed from designs used on bigger Grand Prix boats such as the TP52s. The concept was to build a sail that would be fast sailing the best angles in light air, but still rotate and fly well at deeper angles when needed to hold position. That concept works really well on the latest generation of J-class sprit boats, like the J/109 and J/122. If you live in a light air area or you get lumpy conditions at 12 TWS. This sail will make the difference.
FEATURES:
» AirX 650
» High Modulus Luff Cords
» Inked on Sail Numbers
» Turtle Bag
New for 2011! 2A Class Spinnaker 108m2 - Asymmetric $4,659
SPL = 5.72
ISP = 14.84
This sail loves to sail deep angles and rotate to weather downwind. It has a bigger more powerful head section and more elliptical shaping on the edges. So it will be more stable than the previous design with the tack raised and the sheet eased. But it still works well at tighter angles if it gets lighter. We really like this design and it has proven versatile and fast, in all conditions.
FEATURES:
» AirX 650
» High Modulus Luff Cords
» Inked on Sail Numbers
» Turtle Bag
4A Class Spinnaker 108m2 - Heavy Asymmetric $4,694SPL = 13.33
ISP = 49.00
This sail isn't just a heavier version of the 2A, it's shape and geometry are optimized for sailing in breeze over 18 knots TWS. The 4A spinnaker is more stable and easier to trim and gybe in heavier breeze. This sail is designed to keep the tack down, but still project out to windward, which makes it easier to keep the sail under the chute and more stable in lumpy conditions. This will be a great addition to any J/109 inventory.
FEATURES:
» AirX 700
» High Modulus Luff Cords
» Inked on Sail Numbers
» Turtle Bag
