J/109


2010 was another great year for North Sails' J/109 Class Sail Development (CSD) program in North America. North-powered J/109s had a string of wins, including the three top spots at the North Americans in Newport, RI. North-powered boats racing both in PHRF and IRC classes did well also. A big thanks to Gossip, Gut Feeling, Caminos, and Mad Dogs for helping us improve our sails and for getting great results.

In 2011 we are building on the success of our sails (thanks to our clients...) with some changes and additions to our menu of class sails. We continue to refine the upwind 3DL® sails with better shapes, yarn layouts and product features that will help make the sails more durable without adding extra weight.

Downwind, we are switching to a new more versatile design for the all-purpose 2A spinnaker. We are also adding a new class spinnaker to the lineup, called the 1.5A. This sail is really great in 6-12 TWS, when the boat is sailing VMG angles, but still needing to sail deep as possible for position in the puffs.

We work hard on our CSD menu of sails which are optimized for class Racing, but we are also continuing to refine our sails for handicap racing. The 145% genoa and big 120m2 AP spinnaker are proven, fast sails in just about every area. Our Code 0A sail for tight reaching in very light breeze has won a few races too. So, even if you don’t race in class events, and/or maybe only race on weeknights, we are working to make the best sails that win races.
