North's head sails made of laminated sailcloth deliver an unmatched combination of light weight, low stretch and long life for cruising sailors looking for superior performance. Original North D-Cut™ panel construction align threads with loads in the sail even more effectively than cross cut. This locks the draught where it was designed to be, resulting in more forward drive meaning more speed, and because these sails are more stable they maintain performance in a wider wind range meaning you will probably reef later and use the additional power available.
Each cloth style offers a distinct balance of durability, strength, low stretch, UV resistance and cost. We can advise you which cloth is best for your boat.
When reefing these sails, Roller Furling patches - “radial patches which extend the head and tack reinforcing out into the foot and leach of the sail” transferring the loads through the RF Patches, not the foot and leach, results in smoother shape under load when the sail is reefed. Optional reef marks provide a quick reference for furling. North's exclusive Tear drop patches disperse corner loads and provide added reinforcement. All these features create a sail that has a greater wind range, More usable power and will drive your boat faster with less healing.
