Cruising Mainsail 

Great, so your thinking about replacing your Cruising Mainsail but what are the choices?
At North Sails Israel we group our Cruising sails into three main categories.

Classic Cross Cut 

Classic Cross Cut sails are produced in Dacron. A durable hard wearing material. That's the classic looking sail material you see every day. But that's where the similarity ends. By using a highly technical weaving processes to make our sail cloth, we can add additional fibres into the Fill or the Weave to increase strength and control stretch. Because we control these characteristics we can use it in special ways. The Cross Cut design uses our heavy fill cloth cut so the the extra strength is concentrated in the direction of the stresses in the sail. This reduces stretch, the enemy of sail shape. It allows us to support more sail area with less use of battens. That means less weight, the sails are easier to hoist, and because our cloth holds it's shape better, you get more forward drive and less healing. Classic cross cut sails are the most common choice for the serious cruising yacht.

Tri Radial Cut

Tri Radial sails utilise the different characteristics of various laminate materials. These laminates are cut and assembled to follow the stress lines even more accurately than a cross cut sail, meaning sail shape stays stable through a wider wind range, creating more power in the direction you want to go and perhaps later reefing. Its even lighter than Dacron for the same strength. These sails might be the choice for cruisers looking for extra speed.

3DL Marathon.

3DL Marathon takes sail design into another level. These sails are moulded in one piece. The shape is created in the material and fibres and locked there between protective laminates. These sails will give you the ultimate shape and the widest wind range. They are unique to North Sails. These are the ultimate fast cruising sails.
